Anna has an exceptional knowledge of music pedagogy in schools and is a big advocate for inclusive music-making. She approaches her work with great energy and integrity, having seen her involvement in high quality resource development and teacher training. A real pleasure to work alongside.

I first met Anna Gower when she came to review my application for Musical Futures Champion Teacher status in 2010 but was aware of her work for many years before this. Anna is an inspirational project leader with the ability to sift through superfluous information and get to the very heart of the issue at hand. She is then able to design and implement strategies that make a very positive impact both in her school and for the hundreds of schools involved Musical Futures. Her recent work on the Singing and Technology pilot has been outstanding and this is evident from both the standard of resources that have been produced and the community engagement that Anna has generated. Her excellent use of social media has allowed the project to rapidly adapt to the needs of hugely varied schools.

The impact of Covid means that these days we need to all be flexible. When I was asked to take on a Year 1 classroom role at this International School in Bangkok, I was initially hit by doubts that being secondary trained, I would be able to get to grips with the new rhythms and structures involved in working with such young children. But I soon realised that so much of teaching is about relationships. It's about wanting to do the very best for your class and having just one group of children is really special, as you get to know them so well. It's also about meticulous planning, being prepared for every eventuality, being open to new pedagogy and ideas and being creative. I loved every second of this year and I have learned so much to take with me into my new primary music teaching role next year. Show less
