I’m a service designer. I manage and lead teams in creative project developments by tackling challenges using inclusive, collaborative and user-centred design practices. The value of my work lays in my ability to learn new things, interpret insights and understand the big picture quickly within fast paced workplace environments. I am very good at actively listening and interpreting issues and challenges raised and I always conduct accurate research and data analysis to enable me to examine the challenges presented to employ the most effective design methods required to create positive change. I am a confident negotiator and maintain a high degree of influencing skills which I use to get the right people in the right place together and actively managing stakeholders across different product teams so that I set up the best conditions for my projects to thrive and deliver best outcomes. As an experienced designer and facilitator of co-creation workshops, I help people see the benefit of a creative approach and facilitate collaborative working that leads to new ideas and fast development. By working with people rather than consulting from the sideline, I have succeeded in unlocking their entrepreneurial traits and thus empowered them to problem solve the right thing, the right way with the right people. Senior Service Designer

Feb 2020 - Jul 2021
This role within OVO Home Services allowed me to investigate how service design can integrate and add value within a product and technology setting. During this time, I carved out opportunities to help teams understand people, stakeholders, technology and processes across the OHS. I scoped, defined and led multiple initiatives that involved planning and facilitating co - design workshops. This came with the added challenge of working remotely but by implementing Miro as a collaborative tool and training teams across the organisation I was able to accelerate collaboration and relationship building across the programmes. Through collaborative sessions with the design and research team, we benchmarked the user centred design (UCD) maturity of OHS and set a strategy that ensured we worked at the most impactful level to make the changes we wanted to see in 12 months. This helped us create goals and objectives that measured the impact of our work and showed how it met wider product team and organisation objectives which included leading an inception phase, initiating and creating a customer migration investment case and technology strategy. A key aspect of this position was communicating the value of service design through presentations, workshops and documentation and was a real success, resulting in a backlog of potential service design projects as it gained momentum through my perseverance and influence to key stakeholders. When Replin fabrics, my then employer was sold and production moved to a Yorkshire manufacturing facility and the Peebles mill closed it gates in 2015, an opportunity arose for me to combine my design skills with an interest in the circular economy and the re-purposing of potential waste materials. I was contracted by a local hospitality company and I established and led a team to save objects from the mill with the intention of conserving artefacts by transforming them into location friendly features and art installations. My role was to drive a collaborative team approach with a clear strategy of using storytelling as a vehicle to visually showcase a body of research work as conversation generating art pieces whilst promoting sustainable design practices in a historical yet commercial setting of a local hotel whose building used to be the family home of the original mill owners. This project resulted in creation of a space that became not only aesthetically pleasing but a powerful yet subtle marketing tool that stimulated retention of customers and staff, increased review scores and interest on online platforms and had a marketing lifespan that outweighed any external marketing activity. Following the success of this, I was hired to work on a number of projects across the companies portfolio of hotels. I worked with the creative culture department and interior teams, I managed design projects from conception to completion including research, development, sourcing, buying, creating, and making. This was a great learning experience working with a company undertaking a new human centred organisational approach across all its services driven by a creative culture department. http://www.parkpeebles.co.uk/our-story/ Show less

Senior Textile Designer

Jun 2008 - Sep 2015
As a Senior designer with 7 years experience in the transportation sector. I worked with international design studios such as Teague, Priestman Goode, Tangerine, SeymourPowell and Acumen to develop technical woven textiles that deliver on aesthetic brief whilst meeting the exacting requirements of aviation specification. Main responsibilities : Managed own and designers time effectively while continuously multi-tasking key priorities on numerous same time projects to meet required deadlines. I met directly with customers, internal and external sales, production, technical teams and suppliers to ensure internal and external processes and developments were on time and within budget. Commercially, I developed marketing plans and strategies, which supported the launch of new products into the marketplace. I also planned, designed and ran sales and networking events. I excelled by understanding clients needs and interpreting this to other key stakeholders and always quickly identifying any issues of concern such as weak communication channels or other issues that came to light. My skills in relation to this were picked up by my senior management team which resulted in me being asked to undertake additional management activities and roles to benefit the business. An example of this was undertaking duties as a fully qualified Internal Auditor to conduct audits on the business in relation to the company management and environmental system to achieve environmental standard EN ISO 1400 and AS 9100 aviation class. This gave me a more rounded business understanding and led to further opportunities to support the organisations during a computer system digital services change. In my role as a super user and trainer, I contributed to the business steering group meetings and collaborated on developing the management system and procedures. This role allowed me to demonstrate my ability to consider and communicate the impact of decisions on wider systems and policies. Show less
