    • Editor UK (Cicero Pulse)
      • Aug 2018 - Mar 2019

As Editor UK of Cicero Pulse, the policy monitoring team, I helped manage the UK policy team, which included working on one of our most important financial regulation client accounts. I was also the account lead for our youth justice and higher education clients, and kept them updated on the latest regulatory, policy and stakeholder developments.

    • Associate (Cicero Pulse)

I helped win a bespoke higher education client through my political developments weekly reports and an analysis ahead of the official launch of the post-18 education and funding review. Through my monitoring of parliamentary debates and regulatory developments, I expanded my knowledge and understanding of UK and European Parliamentary procedures, as well as US financial regulations. I also improved my research, writing and client-facing skills.

      • Feb 2016 - Jul 2016

I was selected by the Labour Party to be their trainee for the year with the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats (S&D Group) at the European Parliament in Brussels. I interned with the S&D Secretariat on the International Trade Committee (INTA), where I quickly familiarised myself with the various features of trade agreements, such as dispute settlement mechanisms. I would provide MEPs with research briefings on the various trade files, and would review amendments to find compromises. I was responsible for drafting my political group's parliamentary urgent resolutions on human rights abuses in third countries under time constraints, and would negotiate with representatives from the other groups to produce a final joint text. This work fed into the speeches MEPs would give in the hemicycle chamber on the resolutions. I also developed my cultural awareness and interpersonal skills by working with colleagues from all over Europe and beyond. Show less

      • Oct 2015 - Jan 2016

I was originally recruited to work on a long-term qualitative research project on local regeneration, where I took the initiative of producing daily media monitoring emails. My remit soon expanded to help develop a campaign against the Housing and Planning Bill, for which I drafted a submission to the Government's Pay to Stay consultation, based on primary qualitative research I conducted and an analysis of secondary evidence. As part of the campaign, I was involved in face-to-face lobbying meetings with our local MP and Lords, and liaised with local councillors and other political stakeholders and campaigners. I also worked on stakeholder mapping, and corresponded with relevant MPs. Show less
