Stats NZ is the steward for world-leading integrated database containing de-identified longitudinal microdata. We work with data suppliers across the government data system and maintain over 1000 datasets. The database is used by a community of researchers performing world-leading research for the benefit of New Zealanders. I champion the metadata workstream.- Collaboratively planned and set a dynamic internal process for ensuring customers have access to current and accurate metadata via a central metadata repository and external website, IDI Search. - Consolidated various versions of metadata documents into one document for roughly 65% of datasets to facilitate customers in looking for information required to interpret our data correctly.- Supported data suppliers in improving their metadata quality by investigating quality issues and assessing the state of their metadata.- Designed a tool with developers and analysts that automated how flat metadata files were loaded into a SQL database while accounting for versioning problems and customer's journey in the Data Lab. The tool replaces a 14-step manual process and instead loads an indefinite number of files with one click of a button in around 5 minutes. - Further refined our information management policy and embedded better information management practices within the team.- Participated in webinars and conferences, and read resources on international best practices for metadata management in order to advise on the design of a cross-government metadata system as demand for our integrated data service increases. I focus on the user-end of the pipeline.- Guided and trained colleagues on how to create or update metadata as data gets updated and as we receive metadata-related queries. Show less

- Responded to and investigated technical queries by customers about over 1000 datasets available in the Data Lab. This also required a good understanding of the ways in which analysts design the data and the internal workings of the Integrated Data database- Initiated and led a content cleanup, which involved sorting and reviewing close to 1000 documents and pages, as well as revamping an internal wiki platform, which greatly improved users' experience. - Acted as a gatekeeper for access to integrated data by reviewing Data Lab applications according to 'Five Safes'and indigenous frameworks.- Gathered and utilised insights gained from customer queries to create cheat sheets for 29 datasets to reduce repetitive work. - Processed the ad-hoc load of COVID-19 datasets and integrated data that are being refreshed using SQL.
