I examined the anatomical mapping of the spatial distribution of cerebral microbleeds (CMBs) and associations with clinical risk factors in a subset of UK Biobank (UKB). Supervisors: Prof. David Werring, Prof. Parashkev Nachev. Learned skills include: • Trained a model based on You Only Look Once, a state-of-the-art object detection algorithm, to detect CMBs in a large subset of UKB (Python) • Implemented a Bayesian penalized regression model to identify clinical predictors of CMBs and a voxel-wise spatial inference model to map the anatomical correspondence between the spatial distribution of CMBs and clinical factors Show less

I identified, compared and ranked the most (cost-)effective self-management interventions (SMIs) for adults in Europe with the four high-priority chronic diseases: type 2 diabetes, obesity, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and heart failure (COMPAR-EU project). Specific tasks included: • Extracted key information from randomized controlled trials on SMIs for further evaluation • Helped establish methods for ensuring high quality of the data (including peer review) I identified, compared and ranked the most (cost-)effective self-management interventions (SMIs) for adults in Europe with the four high-priority chronic diseases: type 2 diabetes, obesity, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and heart failure (COMPAR-EU project). I investigated the association between infarct location and post-stroke cognitive impairment in a cohort of 762 patients with acute ischemic stroke. Supervisors: Nick Weaver (MD, PhD), Prof. Geert Jan Biessels. Learned skills include: • Identified and delineated acute infarcts on 1500 diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging scans • Performed lesion-symptom mapping analyses (voxel- and region of interest-based) using image analysis software (NiiStat, SPM, NPM, MRIcron) I investigated the association between infarct location and post-stroke cognitive impairment in a cohort of 762 patients with acute ischemic stroke.
