Teaching grades 5-8, in a title 1 school. Besides my duties as a classroom teacher, my role is extended to each of my students depending on individual support needed. Created a 3 year middle school music curriculum touching topics of musical elements, music theory and music history. Project based and student centered learning are priorities when developing assignments and assessments. Introducing musical terminology to allow students to properly analyze and describe music. Music theory is taught to give students a foundation of creating and/or performing music of their choice. Music history is combined into the curriculum to cultivate students of the extensive role of music in culture, society and music as we know today. Offer private lessons to students who express interest in voice, piano and most recently guitar. Daily duties in the classroom, including but not limited to daily assessments, one on one conferences with students, supporting other classroom teachers, providing professional development for colleagues, maintaining classroom and monthly bulletin board and newsletter updates. It's not about getting my students to fall in love with the subject or content of music but to allow these students to know there are other outlets to express themselves, to appreciate expressions through music and the arts.
