The Ohio Academy of Science was founded in 1891 to promote science and science education in Ohio. The Academy conducts numerous pre-college student-programs to encourage STEM education and to provide venues where student-scientists can interact with other students and scientists from across Ohio. In addition, OAS hosts an Annual Meeting and publishes a scientific journal The Ohio Journal of Science that focuses on the science being done in Ohio, as well as the science that is directly impacting Ohio. Three years ago I returned to the classroom in an effort to re-connect with our future. My daily lessons inspire students to embrace science and question the real-world around them through research and discovery. I work hard each day to make every lesson authentic and relevant. I have the best job! I have the opportunity to engage students, teachers and administrators in the realm of science. But, it doesn't stop there! We are constantly collaborating with the other core curriculum areas to bring integrated instructional opportunities to the classroom thus benefiting students and teachers as they prepare for high-stakes tests and college/career readiness. I offer consistent professional development courses to teachers in Darke County as well as throughout the entire state of Ohio. I also offer sessions on formative assessment, differentiation and literacy integration. I have a passion for integrating children's literature into the science classroom as well! Look for my professional development opportunities as well as other free resources I offer on my website at: http://www.darke.k12.oh.us/~Angela_McMurry/ I am also a member of the Science Network of Regional Leaders team and Biology Curriculum Assessment Committee for the Ohio Department of Education.
