Early last year an elderly relative phoned to ask us to help him arrange for him to move to a Care Home and to arrange the sale of his house. This should all have been relatively straightforward, but as we were to find out very quickly, it would not be. Following the work you had done for us on the ownership and lease renewal for a commercial property, we of course came to you for advice. The house went on the market, Powers of Attorney were applied for and a care home was found, and then the fun began. You dealt with the agreement with the Care Home to allow my relative to move in and not have to pay until the house was sold, which of course should only have been a few months. But then Brexit happened and the mortgage market in London stopped to take a breath. After separating the garage from the property on the land registry to allow them to be sold separately, 14 months later, the fifth buyer finally got a mortgage and completed and throughout all of this Angela kept her head and helped Martin and I through the minefield of Care Home finance departments etc. The house and garage are now sold and the Care Home finance department were happy. The advice we are getting with regards to our responsibilities holding Power of Attorney for my relative has been invaluable.
