Experience

    • Research Assistant
      • Jan 2021 - Present

I'm currently under supervision as part of the Human brain histology team in Prof. Nancy Ip's laboratory at HKUST, under Programme 1 in HKCeND. With the use of immunostaining of molecular markers on human brain AD and healthy control tissue samples from various brain banks, spatial relationships and pattern differences in plaque-associated glial interactions are studied at the microscopic level in (multiplex) widefield images and confocal stacks. I have been designing and scripting algorithm-based workflows as part of our customized 2D (ImageJ, QuPath) and 3D (Imaris, AIVIA) bioimage analysis, looking into phenotypical features of nearest-neighbor objects that are subject to compositional heterogeneity within notable patterns of spatial organization. Analysis pipelines have been developed for (semi-)automatic quantification of sampled image datasets, using both parameter-based criteria and Machine Learning-based classifiers for image processing and data taming, based on the combinations of stained markers highlighting different microanatomical features. Hypothesis-driven analysis are tailor-designed to extract relevant biological information based on relevant pattern observations. Show less

Former Amgen Scholar at LMU München, as part of the Amgen Scholars European Programme 2018. I undertook an independent research project under supervision in Prof. Dr. Anton Sirota's lab, to work on technical, computational and behavioural adaptations for the use of ratCAVE - Virtual Reality (VR) system with mice, and further examining its contextual simulations for behavioural tasks. This research project was presented at poster symposiums in Graduate school of Systemic Neuroscience (GSN) Munich and at Cambridge. Worked as an intern in the Hippocampus team of the System Neuroscience laboratory(SNL), under the Center of Synaptic Brain Dysfunctions (CSBD) in the Institute of Basic Science (IBS), within KAIST. Have strived to help with three research projects, assisted in the experimental work and data analysis. • Regionally-specific chemogenetic inhibition of value signals by DREADD-Gi system • Sleep and awake immobility SWRs electrophysiological recording in CA1 neurons • Value-dependent action selection under probabilistic reward delivery in T-maze variants • Data visualization of rat’s behavioural trajectories and pre-processing of spike clusters using MATlab x MClust • (Immuno-)histochemical staining and imaging of rodent brain sections Supervised by a researcher who focuses on investigating the role of CA1 in Incremental value processing during Hippocampal replays, further exploring this mechanism in rat CA3, using 24-tetrodes electrophysiological recordings.
