The boiler burns a mixture of biomass, waste wood and sludge from the effluent plant. In this role i am required to monitor the plant out in the field while it is being controlled from a central control room. I previously worked on the effluent plant which treats the sites waste water to an acceptable level to be pumped back into the river Dee. This requires taking daily water samples from various points in the process and testing them for; Solids content, COD (chemical oxygen demand), NH4 (Ammonium), PHOS (Phosphate) and pH. These results are recorded using GMES and relayed back to the shift team leader so changes to the plant can me made accordingly. The effluent plant also deals with the primary sludge, this is the sludge removed from the water during the treatment process, as well as the sludge that is created by the RCF during the de-inking stage of their process. This is a de-watering process to allow the primary sludge to be burnt by our onsite boiler for energy production, or sent offsite to various consumers. I am also responsible for ensuring the plant is running as required and investigating any problems with equipment that may arise as well as trying to solve the problem and return the equipment to correct running conditions before calling for mechanical or electrical support. This also includes carrying out weekly preventative maintenance check routes and entering any notifications for any work that is required. I am also a designated PAP(Production Authorised Person) this means I am authorised to carry out electrical isolation's for mechanical work only, as part of our Lock Out Tag Out and Permit to Work procedures.

I also spent 7 months based within the RCP Quality department, this role required me to monitor and control quality of incoming recycled paper that is used to produce newsprint, as well as co-mingled material that is going to be sorted in our own onsite material recycling and recovery facility. The role also includes collecting and organizing data as well as liaising between the vendors, warehouse staff and company management.
