May 2013 - Apr 2019
Promoted to Head of Health at the start of 2014, my main focus has been adapting the curriculum to offer experiences and skill development to allow students to flourish in the modern working world, whilst improving and introducing departmental processes designed to raise student achievement. My teaching load has included Physical Education classes at all year groups from Year 10 to 13 in each year of employment and Health classes in Years 10 and 11. Extending the Health programme offered to the senior school in 2015, with the plans and assessments in place to expand the NCEA programme to a full NCEA subject in 2016. Introducing EOTC swimming programme for the Junior and Intermediate school linked to the Health Curriculum and end of year camp to reward hard working students who have showed diligence throughout the year. Shown a large commitment to Extra Curricular activities that include cricket (Junior and Senior South Auckland Blitz Champions, Senior Grade B Champions), Rugby, Basketball and off site support of the Waka Ama programme. Head of PE
-
Sep 2005 - Apr 2011
Promoted to Head of Department in 2006, my main focus was to enable pupils to experience a range of sporting opportunities, introducing several new sports to the curriculum including Handball, Volleyball, Archery, Free Running and Golf. Introduction of Btec Sport (performance) qualification for the 14-16 age group, giving students a work place focused experience in various sporting fields at a performance level. This Qualification is very similar to the NCEA system in New Zealand. It is a mixture of internally and externally assessed units with extensive internal and external moderation processes. Results for my 2010 cohort showed 70% achieved distinction level (4 grade A GCSE equivalent) with a 100% pass rate. Training and mentored three student teachers, who have gained full time employment in education. In 2008, I was nominated by students and subsequently short listed for Hull Secondary School Teacher of the Year, narrowly missing out at the Awards Event. Show less
