The problem with existing epinephrine auto-injectors on the market can best be summarized by the following; 1) There is no auto-injector currently on the market that delivers the appropriate dose of epinephrine and has the appropriate needle size for infants and young children; 2) The administration technique of current auto-injector devices may be intimidating to non-healthcare professionals and some design features may increase the risk of improper administration technique in emergency scenarios, resulting in inadequate medication delivery and; 3) The cost of the EPIPEN device has increased 400% ($58 to $600) over the last number of years and has become unaffordable to the masses.
