Municipal District Officer
-
Oct 2000 - Feb 2020
I worked in various roles within Kerry County Council finishing as Municipal District Officer for the Listowel Municipal District, which was a multi faceted position involving strategic, developmental and administrative duties. At a strategic level I organised the Municipal District Team Meetings, which allow senior municipal staff and senior staff from other departments to inform council policy and develop projects within the Municipal District. My developmental role involved me working with local communities to establish fora with which the Council can engage. The process I used varied due to the dynamics of each community but would involve much consultation and then attendance at public meetings to get wider community support for the group or local projects. My administrative duties involved finance, staff supervisory functions, report writing which included the preparation of reports for the Senior Management Team, facilitating inter-agency meetings, collating data for national key performance indicators and preparing Departmental returns. Mar 1993 - Oct 2000
During my 7 ½ years in the Police Service, I undertook an initial period of training in the United Kingdom before carrying out duties as a uniformed beat officer, a mobile support unit pursuit driver (after successfully completing the Police National Driving Course), a member of the Police Licensing Unit, a member of the Priority Policing Unit, and a Detective Constable in the Commercial Branch. As part of my duties, I have acquired a full knowledge of both Common and Statute (Jersey) Laws and an understanding of the judiciary system. I have investigated numerous offences which cover such areas as embezzlement, cheque and plastic fraud, false accounting, fraudulent conversion, credit fraud, the importation of counterfeit currency, false pretences, grave and criminal assaults, possession of offensive weapons and various drug related offences. I was also an Authorised Firearms Officer and was deployed as part of the Police Firearms Unit when firearms incidents arose. Show less
