Business Systems Manager

Feb 2020 - Present
Leading a team of six, we are responsible for all aspects of Astute Electronics’ global IT, ERP, CRM and Communications systems. My team provides day-to-day support for more than three hundred users, on nine main software suites, across all time zones. Whilst working within an agile framework to deliver new projects and provide efficiencies across the whole business. Working within the Defence and Aerospace industries and with Government customers, I have driven the company towards a cyber security attitude. Introducing a continuous improvement plan to ensure that we are doing everything we can to protect Astute, our employees, and our customers. Not being afraid to make a change for the better, I moved our IT Managed Service Provider from a long-term incumbent to a partner with better resources, knowledge, and processes. The risks to the business’ continued expansions were high if we had just stayed with the existing providers. Planning began over a year before the final handover, and the successful completion was delivered with zero business impact. I have run major company-wide projects from ERP version upgrades, security protocols, and systems overhauls, to a complete redesign of our physical-digital environment, all driving innovation and efficiencies throughout the business.Working in a global company has ensured that time management and planning have been at the forefront of our projects. We have an 8-hour period, once a week, when no offices are open. Project planning for this has dictated an intricate and precise window, within which all project updates and systems shutdowns necessary for project developments and essential patch maintenance exist. The Business Systems Manager role has brought my project and personnel management skills to the fore. Working with a mix of office-based team members, permanent WFH team members, and remote consultants all together in one team, whilst delivering the necessary mixture of sprints and releases along the way.

Business Analyst
-
Apr 2018 - Feb 2020
When Astute moved to a new ERP system in early 2018, I was presented with the opportunity to introduce advanced analytics to our company. We had previously relied upon a series of Excel reports and some heavily manual processes. As the only analyst, I decided to use Microsoft PowerBI and set about designing the first offering. Working with key users within the Sales Department, we created a detailed brief which I used to design and build the Sales BI report. This report was tested and then rolled out to our UK office. Following on from the positive feedback and sharp uptake, I developed Sales reports for all of our global sites. Since the initial offering, I rolled out further BI reports aimed at all the other departments within our company. This included having advanced reporting for Operations, Finance, Quality, Product, Stock, Management KPIs, ERP Data, and a customer-facing sales report. To ensure that users were able to get the most out of the BI, I ran introductory sessions for all new users and hosted a weekly drop-in session for any user with any question. To support self-learning, I created an in-depth user guide and a series of short 'How To' videos. In December 2019, I was awarded The Astute Award For Innovation. This was in recognition of the approach I took to delivering the BI solution for the business.Prior to my move over from 3PL Project Executive, I had been teaching myself PowerBI via EdX and the Microsoft learning platform. Immediately after taking on the role of Business Analyst, I boosted my knowledge with three classroom-based courses focused on PowerBI, one focused on M and DAX, attended the PowerBI World Tour in London, and was a member of the London PowerBI User Group.

3PL Project Executive
-
Mar 2017 - Apr 2018
I managed a tooling supply contract for the MoD. We ensured that mission-critical timescales and total accuracy were achieved when moving over two million items within a five-month window to multiple locations worldwide. I ran a team of twenty-five warehouse staff, three 3PL buyers, and held weekly briefings with all levels of management. The project was driven by a wide range of KPIs and it was my responsibility to monitor, analyse, present and pro-actively manage our suppliers and our processes to achieve success. My analysis and data intelligence of this project lead to the position of Business Analyst being created within Astute to allow my skills to be applied to the company as a whole, instead of just one project.

Freelance Graphic Designer

Feb 2015 - Mar 2017
Working as a freelance graphic designer, I enjoyed working on one-off projects and on long term contracts for large, multi-national companies. My work ranged from the smallest of projects, creating PowerPoints, all the way up to re-branding a business. I built up a network of recurring customers including Johnson & Johnson, The Golf Channel, Lush, Coca-Cola and Nicorette. Feb 2013 - Mar 2017
Ran a profitable clothing company based around my experiences within the snowboarding community. The company was initially completely digital and as a sole-trader, I was responsible for every aspect of the business. I designed the ranges, created the website, managed the digital adverting, outsourced the production, managed sales, built up and maintained relationships with suppliers, printers and customers.
