Alongside PhD in the Constructed Environment candidate Lincoln L. Lewis, we made multiple trips to the Chesapeake Bay and immersed ourselves in the crabbing industry and its immediate tidal geography. Tasks on site included GPS tracking, kayaking around the shallow harbor, sketching and photographing the vernacular "crab shanties" as well as measuring them in detailed plan and elevation, and communicating our vision to the locals who call Tangier home. Back in Charlottesville, we drew the working landscape at increasingly focused scales according to the National Park Service Historic American Landscape Survey drawing guidelines, where we ultimately submitted a 36 page short format history and 8 sheets of measured drawings. Finished work included an analysis of the ferry routes and restricted waters in the Bay, classification of the crab shanties' components and individual condition, vegetation catalogues of the Island's shrinking marshes, and one detailed plan and elevation of local waterman Dan Dise's personal crab shanty. Further dissemination of our research will come in the Fall of 2023.

Student Assistant to the Director of Career Development
-
Oct 2022 - May 2023
Point-of-contact between students and staff regarding Career Development within the School of Architecture. Thus far I've designed mock architectural resumes, career posters to engage the student body, a "Best of Charlottesville" leaflet for visiting employers, and led the branding for our Spring 2023 Career Week. Along with the Director of Career Development, Lindsay Schiller, we successfully matched 110 applicant students across 84 companies with Winter Externship experiences.
