Experience

    • Research Fellow
      • Jun 2021 - Present

Current research assistant in the lab of Dr. Sarah Zhang. Our lab focuses on molecular mechanisms of inflammation, angiogenesis, vascular and neuronal degeneration in retinal diseases and the potential roles of angiogenic inhibitors in obesity, insulin resistance, and diabetes. My current work focuses on the characterization of retinal photoreceptors in Diabetic Retinopathy to investigate changes in photoreceptor synapses in a model of type 1 diabetes in wild type and Xbp1 cKO mice. This research on the importance of early structural changes to the photoreceptor may reveal newfound mechanisms of retinal synaptic plasticity and open potential therapeutic avenues that have yet to be explored.
