Andy is a great person to have on your team. He is very knowledgable in a wide range of areas, and still remains approchable and humble. He freely shares his knowledge with team members in an easy to understand way, adding value to the group as a whole. It is hard to talk about Andy without using words like intelligent, committed, integrity, and leader. I am thankful for the opportunity I had to work with Andy.

Andy's ability to handle technical, complicated customer issues is superb. He is focused on resolving customer problems in a timely way and accurately. He's a pleasure to work with and I know I can always count on him when things get crazy.

Manage day to day operations and long term development planning of the Isilon Support lab. I manage about 65 physical servers, over 100 Isilon storage nodes, 10 serial concentrators and 15 Cisco/Force 10 network switches and a VMWare system that supports 800+ virtual machines. I also handle the yearly road-map planning based on input from the support staff. This lab spans multiple sites in the US.. The lab provides a highly flexible testing infrastructure that allows our support engineers to reproduce a wide variety of customer environments. I also provide direct technical support to the engineers when they have (or report) problems with the hardware/software in the lab. There is a VMWare farm that hosts a multitude of Windows and Linux/Unix virtual machines as well as specialized hardware for Macintosh systems and various tape backup solutions. In addition there is a full Active Directory domain, Open Directory domain, and LDAP servers. In addition to running the lab I act as the Windows Systems Administrator for the GS Tools team. With this role I assist the team with debugging C# code, managing services to automatically unpack customer log sets for review by support and hardware/software updates to production servers (both physical and virtual). As needed I also provide on-site install and integration support to customers in the greater Seattle area. Show less

Managed deployments of desktop and laptop computers to new employees and projects. This would range from single machine deployments to 75 machine deployments. I upgraded the existing Norton Ghost server to better support large scale deployments and retrained staff on more efficient use of the Ghost system. I was also responsible for all the hardware support for the desktops and laptops (replacement hard disks, motherboards, etc). I was also responsible for day to day operations/maintainence of the main data center. Additionally I was tasked with managing user accounts in Active Directory as employees were on/offboarded. • Global Backup Administrator / End User Support
      • 2007 - Mar 2010

In addition to my day to day activities supporting the user base with issues ranging from problems with printing, AD account issues, software/hardware issues and networking I was responsible for administering our Windows based Netbackup system. This system was responsible for backups of our critical infrastructure servers (email, SQL and file storage). I was responsible for ensuring the daily backups completed without error and managing the tapes at our remote storage facility. I was successful in recovering email from tapes that had fallen out of inventory multiple times. I also took the system from very unreliable to 99% reliability in about 12 months. I managed an inventory of ~7000 tapes and added a second tape library to improve the backup speed and reduce tape consumption (the new library was LTO, previous library SDLT) significantly. The cost savings we realized by switching to LTO tape paid for the new library in about 18 months. Show less
