My main research interest is the development of new analytical biochemistry methods for disease prognosis thought the identification of biomarkers. Current research focuses in developing quantification methods and understanding the role of toxic iron species in the pathology of diseases such as hereditary hemochromatosis (HH) and diabetes mellitus (DM). Two research lines are thus being pursued: The application and development of quantification methods for blood serum non-transferrin-bound iron (NTBI). I also, try to increase knowledge about the biochemical nature of these elusive NTBI species. I have also been applying my expertise in MS and MS based proteomics in a series of collaborations which range from the characterization of biomarkers in bladder cancer to metabolite identification in composite drugs.
