Drew has been an absolute pleasure to work with. He acts professionally and has interacted very well with all functions. Drew has excellent problem solving skills. He came up with several design suggestions which improved our overall system design. He also was able to correct several issues with a complex tunnel assembly. Drew was asked to be part of the design team on an important prototype project. He performed component design as well as system layouts utilizing SolidWorks 2009 software. He also performed FEA on certain components of the system to verify design integrity utilizing Ansys and Cosmos software. Drew has an excellent mechanical Engineering foundation. He is very personable and is an extremely hard worker. He is very computer literate and catches on quickly. He has no developmental needs at this time. He will become an excellent engineer with experience over time.

Increased responsibilities as a mechanical and optical problem investigator. Also became directly responsible in operations for two of our high volume (~10k-20k/year) products. Working with guidance from some very talented engineers, began to understand some basic optical equations for use in quality investigations. I also was involved in mechanical fixture design for deployment in our manufacturing environments.

My first role at Cognex was establishing internal metrology services, centered around bringing up a new CMM. This included supporting continuation activities (qualifying cost reductions), quality capacities (failure analysis), and R&D (system performance analysis, supplier analysis). To standardize the services I provided, I developed a SharePoint website that automated request handling and reporting. During this period I also assisted in design reviews for new products.

Took a product from concept through design and tooling release estimated for $2,000,000 revenue per year. Worked with vendors towards cost reduction, in one case adding an estimated $33,000 to yearly profitability. Created several prototypes for testing utilizing machine shop skills and 3D printing capabilities. Analyzed a complex system utilizing FEA skills, allowing for optimization.
