Business Development
-
Nov 2015 - May 2018
Express Print & Mail offers its clients a fully integrated communication solution and produces high quality, targeted and accountable print, communication and marketing solutions in an affordable manner. I am currently employed in a business development role created for me after meeting the owners of the business in September 2015. I joined the company in November 2015 and was offered the opportunity to take responsibility for a company-wide ERP software project. I worked with key members of our team and the software vendors to identify deliverables required and set key milestones for the project. I have been successful in achieving the timelines agreed and have implemented the estimating and production modules of the project with minimal disruption and a high degree of accuracy. In addition to making continual improvements to the system and staff training, I am the key technical contact for users of the system. I have been involved with other members of the business development team to host site visits and deliver joint presentations to prospective clients. I have also been entrusted with the account management of existing key clients and have found success in building business with new clients. Due to my focus on building mutually beneficial relationships with clients and other stakeholders I have also been able to retain work from my existing networks. I have a diverse and challenging role which involves providing advice on strategy as well as policies and procedures. Future projects include the rollout of our online platform to trade and retail clients and the implementation of an online editing and brand management platform.

Branch Manager
-
Oct 2014 - Oct 2015
Lotsa Print and Signage are a long-established company specialising in meeting customer needs through the printing of business cards, brochures, stationary, presentations folders, as well as posters, magazines and signage. As Branch Manager, I was responsible for day to day operations and growth of the branch including control of administration, sales, design, managing staff and reporting. I met with the owner of Lotsa Print and Signage who saw an opportunity to use my skills to address issues with the Townsville Branch. The branch was in poor shape when I joined the company, staff morale was low and it was rapidly losing market share due to a lack of focus on client satisfaction. I identified that to get the best out of the branch I needed to be fully engaged as a member of the team rather than continue with the traditional top-down style of management. I was able to gain the respect of the team by working with them to develop strategies to improve the business. Under my leadership, the branch returned to growth in a very quiet market, significantly reduced the number of processing errors while maintaining high standards of quote turnaround and delivery. When a key staff member retired I reorganised job roles without the need to replace the member, increasing the profitability of the branch without reducing service levels. In my time at Lotsa Print I attended industry briefings, developed relationships through local networking events and attended business expos as an exhibitor. My key clients included James Cook University, 1300 Smiles, Jupiters Casino and Townsville City Council. I successfully secured a logistics agreement with 1300 Smiles and negotiated key sponsorship arrangements with Together Townsville (Townsville City Council) and Sealink to maximise exposure for the company. The agreements covered major events such as Strand Ephemera, the World of Wearable Art exhibition as well as Sea Link Ferries Race Week.

Managing Director
-
Oct 1992 - Apr 2014
McTaggarts The Printers provided end-to-end branding, printing and logistics services for businesses of all sizes. I managed a team of up to 26 staff members across two locations for over 20 years. McTaggarts The Printers gained a statewide reputation for high levels of service and quality. This was achieved by developing strong relationships with key stakeholders including staff, clients and suppliers based on mutual respect. I successfully managed the business through a wide range of economic conditions including the GFC which had a devastating effect on the printing industry. This success was achieved, in part by benchmarking our performance against other businesses in the industry to develop meaningful KPI's and stretch targets. To facilitate growth in a mature industry, I focused on the acquisition of a number of competitors, developing detailed business plans to apply for debt funding from our financiers and successfully integrated them into our existing operations. I worked hard to facilitate collaborative working relationships with other industry stakeholders, developing strong supply chain networks where each member focussed on their key competencies and utilised the network to offer an expanded range of products and services to their clients. My company was an early adopter of SaaS applications, allowing the business to grow without the need to make major capital investments in IT hardware. I successfully implemented a SaaS online ordering platform and logistics solution that included the ability to utilize variable data for targeted marketing campaigns. This was a major factor in securing the business of private hospitals, government departments and large national businesses such as Laminex Industries. In 2014 I negotiated the sale of the business to a competitor, working closely with the purchaser, financiers and key staff to ensure a smooth transition.
