Andy is a fantastic practitioner across urban and rural planning and development. He has honed his planning skills and strategic thinking over a number of years and it a great colleague.

Riley Marsden

During Andy's placement with Barnsley MBC, I have supervised his day to day work, and can provide the strongest possible recommendation to anyone looking to employ him in the future. Andy is hard working, intelligent and diligent in everything that he does, highly capable of both carrying out instruction to the letter and thinking for himself. He has proved himself to be a quick learner, open to new ideas and concepts, and capable of developing them to the point of excellence. Andy has worked closely with colleagues to deliver significant improvement, and has proved extremely popular in doing so. He interacts well with others and has grown in confidence during his time with us. As a collague and a friend, I am sad to see him leave and wish him the greatest success with his degree and in his future career, where I am certain he will be a valuable asset to any organisation.

    • Internship with Planning Policy Team
      • May 2013 - Jun 2013

2 day a week internship with the Planning Policy team at Barnsley MBC. My task was to assist the team in their appraisal of sites put forward for their Site Allocations DPD. This involved firstly conducting a preliminary desktop-based assessment of the sites and mark them against certain criteria to ascertain whether they were worth a more detailed appraisal. The sites that were successful were then site visited in person. I independently undertook site visits and appraised the sites against how well they matched the surrounding urban character, the impact any potential development may have on the environment and what sort of services could be found in the area.
