Working on Planning Reform with a focus on Implementation alongside other elements within the wider team. My role was to act as a project leader at the heart of our work, collaborating with others to achieve positive outcomes. This included: Programme and project management for production of the NPPF Prospectus, identifying workstreams and maintaining responsibility for meeting project milestones. Policy development for National Development Management Policies (NDMP), identifying practical considerations to inform our strategy for drafting these. Developing legislation within the Levelling Up and Regeneration Bill, including responsibility for producing and coordinating collateral to support legislation, including Explanatory Notes and Delegated Powers Memos Reporting into the Planning Directorate's governance functions, updating Senior Civil Servants on progress and securing decisions on next steps Coordinating the Planning Reform Pilots Programme, creating a forum for join-up and acting as a central function extracting and disseminating "lessons learnt" that might have wider relevance. Responsible for planning for future pilots and supporting these teams with practical support. Exploring requirements and opportunities for developing digital versions of the NPPF and NDMP. Show less

2 day a week internship with the Planning Policy team at Barnsley MBC. My task was to assist the team in their appraisal of sites put forward for their Site Allocations DPD. This involved firstly conducting a preliminary desktop-based assessment of the sites and mark them against certain criteria to ascertain whether they were worth a more detailed appraisal. The sites that were successful were then site visited in person. I independently undertook site visits and appraised the sites against how well they matched the surrounding urban character, the impact any potential development may have on the environment and what sort of services could be found in the area.
