I got to work with Andrew prior to being his manager at Turbine, so I knew him as a good teammate originally. He is a passionate gamer with a love for the craft and business surrounding it. I watched him diligently pursue his education in Game Development while he worked on my team. Andrew possesses solid coding skills which have enabled him to engineer high quality solutions. He also has the analytical skills to diagnose problems and devise viable solutions. His ability to remain level headed during frenzied periods proves his ability to work well under pressure. I recommend him for employment without reservation

Working as a web developer at Red5 Studios I was responsible for developing and maintaining RESTFUL services in Ruby using RSpec for unit testing and MySQL/Cassandra data stores. I implemented services that used RabbitMQ to process messages and ensure consistent delivery, and worked closely with the Operations team to modify Chef recipes for the services that I worked on. In addition to RESTFUL services, I worked on front-end applications using Ruby on Rails to serve HTML pages to be rendered in an Awesomium browser in the game client. Using jQuery, SASS, and AngularJS I contributed to work on projects like the in-game Inventory, Friends List and the Marketplace. I also worked closely with client and game programmers to have these features interact with the game client. I also worked with LUA during my time as a web developer, implementing full features from back-end services and MySQL database to the LUA front-end in the game. I used both Mercurial and SVN for source control, and Jenkins for automated builds. Most of my development was in an Ubuntu VM, managing the Apache and MySQL services needed for development and testing. Most of my time was self-managed and I was given the freedom to discuss and help determine what features would go into a new design. Show less

Key Responsibilities: Implement high-visibility and high-traffic websites and deploying them on new CMS systems Contribute to a social networking platform that integrates game data with the website Modified third-party open source software solutions in order to make them meet the company's need Utilize PHP5, JavaScript, CSS and Oracle to create dynamic database-driven content Work as part of a small team of developers as well as individual projects with minimal supervision Work with other teams, such as marketing, e-commerce, and community reps, to provide tools and support to assist them in their campaigns Create middleware applications in Java using a custom framework developed by our team in order to support web products that require scheduled tasks. Mentor new hires and help support teams with legacy products Serve as scrum master for a small group of developers, working closely with a web producer and QA lead to drive projects to completion Show less
