Building wooden flutes and piccolos Manual and cnc machining I currently work in two departments at powell flutes. In both departments I manage myself, schedule my own work, and inspect my own materials before I begin work, and inspect the finished product. 1-Wooden instruments Operating manual lathes, duplicator lathe, pantograph, milling machine, and 4 axis cnc router. Scope of work includes inspecting wood stock for defects, making different models of flute and piccolo bodies and head joints from drawings. Adapting designs on the spot to fit slight fluctuations in material size and quality. Setting up cnc router, changing tools, loading programs, editing offsets and g code for tool wear and prototyping. Basic program making, recently I made a few new programs for a new operation I thought up for the wooden flute. Sanding, varnishing, and polishing wooden instruments, to a high standard of quality. 2-Headjoint Department Operating brazing ovens with ammonia atmosphere. Hand soldering and brazing silver, gold, and platinum parts. Extruding silver, gold, and platinum tubes from cylindrical to conical shapes. Operating kiln for heat treatment/annealing of metal tubes after extrusion, manual lathe, pneumatic and hydraulic presses, loading and operating programs on cnc milling machine, clean in pickle and ultrasonic.
