wattsnext is a HR consulting firm that provides dedicated and specialised HR support to SME's across Australia, aiming to bring smaller workplaces into the modern HR world. In my role as HR consultant I partner with a variety of stakeholders to provide effective advice and implement targeted HR frameworks to better support strategic objectives. Primarily my role focuses on: - Ad-hoc ER/IR advice from basic to complex; - Project work aimed at bolstering SME's utilisation of HR analytics to better inform strategic decision making; - Recruitment to support clients in identifying and placing super-star candidates; - Providing training on a broad range of HR matters including compliance, employee engagement, appropriate behaviour, policies and management styles/techniques; and - Mentoring junior HR employees engaged by clients developing an internal HR Team. I’ve truly enjoyed undertaking this work with a focus on raising awareness of Mental Health and safety in the workplace! If you’re looking for a proactive team with a personal touch - reach out to wattsnext.

In this role I truly enjoyed and valued supporting employees/individuals in workplace disputes that had potential to severely impact their lives. This role focused less on technical compliance and the letter of the law, and more on the coaching/advice provided to members of the Union, and representing them in meetings with management which helped level the uneven playing field employees can find themselves on. What I enjoyed most about this role was: - Building connections with diverse members (from cleaners to Senior HR Business Partners at NSW Health); - Advising and representing my members rights towards management (i.e., through emails, calls and virtual meetings); - Supporting members to overcome unfair practices/prejudices to improve their working and overall life; - Advocating for the continuous improvement of employee rights in the workplace. The role opened my eyes to the effect of unfair (or unreasonable) management action and the detrimental impact this can have on employees, which led to frustrations about HR and management more broadly often fail to consider ways a process/outcome can be achieved in a fairer and more reasonable way.
