My graduate research focused on the development of a model for examining the genetic differences that affect nicotine response. Specifically, I developed an assay that could be applied within a forward genetic approach using gene-breaking transposon mutated fish (tagged with either ubiquitous GFP or localized mRFP) to examine the genetic component of the nicotine response. Additionally, I developed methodology to bring microscopy to a wider audience by simplifying and innovating upon the standard the microscope design.During this time, he also developed curriculum and educated school teachers on simple genetics through InSciEd Out Education.
