Andrew is an incredibly thoughtful, deliberate problem solver at Mapbox. I've been fortunate to witness multiple major rearchitectures to our core systems led by Andrew. Each time Andrew has approached deep interconnected technical problems with great insights and persevered through the pits of despair that accompany big systems refactors. Andrew brings a great sense of humor and interest in little details of the world that make him a fantastic colleague.

Andrew is a fantastic co-worker. Over the past 2 years of working together he has shown a fearlessness at jumping into the thorny low-level problems that we face on the team. That, when combined with an insightful and dogged approach to problem solving has lead him to single-handedly bring about huge improvements in our core software. From a personal perspective, Andrew is a joy to work with. He never shies away from sitting down and explaining in great detail the problems he is currently working on - or picking up and helping others with problems. Andrew is also a captivating storyteller and sure to bring a laugh.

I'll be working to leverage data from Sofar's industry-leading ocean data sensor fleet to make maritime navigation more efficient, using weather-aware routing to reduce carbon footprints in shipping and global logistics. I worked on the Search team at Mapbox, and was the senior-most engineer on Carmen, their in-house geocoding engine. My work centered largely on backend performance optimization, with a particular focus on text-processing-related data structures and algorithms, and as part of this focus, I led the transition of much of the computationally intensive infrastructure within Carmen from C++ to Rust. I also worked on sourcing translation data and improving our multilingual search infrastructure.
