I worked at schools in heavily impoverished townships in the Muizenberg area of Cape Town. At the schools, me and one other volunteer taught physical education throughout the school day. Working with large groups of kids (30-40) at a time, organized activities, and worked with school administrators. The schools are extremely underfunded, and there is no budget for a physical education teacher. I worked at schools in heavily impoverished townships in the Muizenberg area of Cape Town. Worked with groups of 18 to 23 elementary school children after school for 2 and a half hours, helping the kids with homework, playing board games, interacting on a personal level with the children and playing outdoor recreational games as well. There were hectic moments throughout each day, and I would make sure that the kids were respectful to each other as well as to the staff, which would be either one or two staff members and myself.
