It was a childhood dream to own and run my own beachside cinema, South West Roxy Cinema, which operated in the historic School of Arts building halfway between Port Macquarie and Coffs Harbour. The cinema had been around for nearly 100 years and was once on the circuit for travelling picture show men in the days before television. Over my two and a half year run, profit was more than doubled, especially with the addition of live entertainment (with gigs from Justice Crew, Timomatic, Gretel Killeen, Christa Hughes, Denis Carnahan's Rugby League Musical and our biggest ever event with Jane Caro & Tracey Spicer). I sold the cinema in October 2019 just before the devastating summer bushfires and then Covid-19 made life very tough for independent cinemas.
