The Compassionate Friends Victoria is blessed with a large (45+) and dedicated group of mutual support self-help group leaders. Their work – enhancing social connectedness, promoting understanding, and reducing isolation for bereaved family members – was recognised in 2014 with the Minister of Health's “Outstanding Achievement by a Team” Award. In my role, I “support the supporters”; that is, I identify and respond to their individual support and resource needs. I have developed and delivered streamlined and accessible training & skills refresher programs, which are now also delivered to interstate Compassionate Friends organisations.

Upon completing my PhD, I applied my social research skills to: a VicHealth-funded project developing conceptual frameworks to drive the translation of knowledge into policy and practice; a nursing project developing tools to enhance patient handover in recovery rooms; and supporting academic staff as they prepared submissions for the Research Quality Framework. Each project was linked through the theme of demystifying – and easing – often complex organisational/occupational processes.
