The purpose of this job was to design, carry out, and report on mechanical testing of devices and packaging for Food & Drug Administration approval. During planning for testing, I would collaborate with development engineers to include tests which covered the design input requirements for a product and consult with Quality Engineering for approval of the protocols and reports. The job required ingenuity, follow-through, communication, and technical writing ability. I built an understanding of statistical concepts such as tolerance limits, type I & II error, confidence & coverage, and checks for data normality. This knowledge was used to set the sample size for tests and determine if the sample had met the acceptance criteria. Through data analysis, I had much experience with JMP (Statistical Analysis Software), comparing data sets to acceptance criteria, comparing data sets for Analysis of Variance (ANOVA), transforming non-normal data, performing a reliability plot, and displaying statistical reports. While on deployment, I worked on a team reconfiguring and installing power grids on five different bases in the Helmand Province. This included installing and balancing the phases on 60 KW generators or higher, distributing the power to the living areas, and correcting severe ground fault conditions on equipment and surrounding structures. On one project, we installed the interior wiring of four wooden office structures and I learned the importance of installing electrical wiring according to the National Electrical Code. While on deployment, I also gained experience troubleshooting and repairing the control systems of air-conditioning and refrigeration units by reading schematics. Show less
