At Olympus I was responsible for developing new products within the R&D team. I worked on a concept product from the early stages. This has entailed gathering and evaluating customer requirements, generating concepts and conducting site visits to local hospitals to present these concepts. Also while at Olympus I was called upon to assist in preparation for an FDA inspection. This required me to review several Design History Files of older products with the intention of finding and remediating errors. This required me to have a comprehensive knowledge of both internal procedures and external regulations such as 21 CFR, ISO 14971 and ISO 13485 to name a few. As a result of this work, I have a complete understanding of what is required in a medical device manufacture, to ensure that both a compliant product and documentation set is produced, at the end of a project and what is required after project completion to ensure compliance is maintained.

At Elekta I was part of their revolutionary project to create a new type of linear accelerator for use in radiation therapy. The goal of this project was to combine the most sophisticated Linac in the world with an MRI machine. This project was run in conjunction with Philips and was very challenging, enjoyable and exciting. I personally was given ownership over four subsystems and was responsible for designing and delivering the prototypes to schedule. My team of engineers, designers and I accomplished the completion of these subsystems and were a major part of effort to build the first prototype system at UMC hospital in Utrecht. This involved extensive communication within the R&D department and other parts of the business as well as with the hospital staff at UMC. Working at Elekta allowed me to hone my leadership skills and learn a great deal about product creation, prototyping, engineering design and analysis and project implementation.
