Since returning to Architecture PLB I have had the opportunity to expand on my part placement experience into other sectors. This includes Sport and Fitness, Higher & Further Education, Housing and Commercial projects. Working on these projects have allowed my to develop further my understanding of design, delivery and detailing as well as my experience of working with clients, contractors and consultants. On one of these projects, which I was given to manage, I had the opportunity to combine pervious employment experience in the sport and leisure industry to develop a brief for a new health and fitness suite for the University of Southampton. The £1.5m, 1000m2 gym, currently under construction (September 2014), will be located on the ground floor of a new halls of residence in the centre of Southampton. The project, which I developed directly with the Universities Project Management Unit and the Sport and Wellbeing Department, is for use by both students of the university and the general public. The development for this project within a residential complex created practically onerous acoustic and servicing strategies which required careful detailing and coordination, as well as a need for a high quality, robust finish, compatible with the nature of a gym environment. As well as managing this complex fit out, I have also been involved in developing and implementing the offices BIM implementation strategy. In particular building a Revit model of a 23,000m2 Halls of Residence for Unite and London Metropolitan University. The model, currently at BIM level 1, is being used to coordinate both structure and MEP and is one of the largest models built for BIM in the office. My current role involves managing and developing the model though the detail design phase of the project, while also feeding back experiences and practices using Revit and BIM to the companies BIM User and Strategy Group. • Part I Architectural Assistant
      • May 2010 - Sep 2011

As a Part I Architectural Assistance i worked within a team of three on a new £32m Academy project in Shoreham-by-Sea, West Sussex. The project was the second of four new-build academies being delivered by Balfour Beaty. On this project I have had the opportunity to influence major design decisions, from early concept arrangements, through to detailed design and construction onsite. I was directly responsible for a number of work packages, including the external wall details, stairs, sanitary units, bespoke joinery, energy center and the major design feature for the project, the atrium teaching pods. Overseeing these packages I was responsible for producing initial design intent drawings, ensuring the details conveyed the design ethos of the project as well as meeting all statuary requirements. I was also responsible for developing the details in conjunction with the contractor and sub-contractors, to ensure they where affordable and could be constructed within the programme onsite. This included attending design team meetings and meetings with sub-contractors as well as commenting to all sub-contractor drawing issues, to ensure the developed details still meet the initial aesthetic and performance requirements.
