I help lead student groups to sustainability-focused areas, where they learn about on-the-ground everyday, living sustainability, agro-ecology, farming, and personal philosophy. I help recruit potential trekkers, interview them, and keep the logistics of the trip moving. While on the trek I work to maintain a healthy and positive group atmosphere, while still maintaining a sense of adventure and participation that decreases the sense of removal from the group. • Shaver's Creek Environmental Education Intern
      • Jan 2015 - Jan 2016

As an Environmental Education Intern for Shaver's Creek I was in charge of creating experiential learning programs centered around the natural world. I did education from the ground up: I researched the necessary materials, created lesson plans and programming centered around said materials, and then actively taught and adapted those programs. One of the programs was a five-day residential program using Penn State students as counselors, and interns as Learning Group Leaders. I was also responsible for parts of animal care for our 20+ birds of prey and 20+ reptiles and amphibians. We designed programming around our live animals, and taught handling and how to teach while handling. We traveled around the area teaching in various schools with various curriculum requirements. We also spent time learning the logistics of running a nature center, and the day-to-day work. Everything from opening the center, to customer service, to roving naturalist teaching, to closing the center. We were also in charge of organizing and running festivals which would have 1,500-2,000 visitors. Show less
