• Identified multi-step routes to API using retrosynthesis and literature analysis. Key programmes impacted include the synthesis of candidates for the treatment of Alzheimer’s such as MK-7622, L-907, L-675 and HCV candidates: MK-3281, as well as Nucleotide inhibitors and protease inhibitors. • Highly skilled in wet chemistry both on the lab and plant scale. Responsible for developing and demonstrating over 80 unique batches on multi-kg scale including in-process analysis.• Adept at running challenging chemistry on scale such as: high pressure hydrogenations; handling of organometallics; hazardous reagents such as azide and air sensitive palladium couplings.• Performed operational hazard evaluation (OHE) for all steps run in the pilot plant using a variety of techniques such as DSC, ARSST, PCC and RC-1.• Heavily involved in tech transfer of processes to engineering group and external CRO’s.• Proficient in API, and intermediates, physical characterisation and crystallisation using easy-max instrument.• Highly skilled at pharmaceutical unit operations such as reactions, distillation, crystallisation, filtration and drying including the use of PAT and Delta V operating system.• Accomplished user of design of experiments software, design expert, to optimise reactions conditions and robustness testing.• Part of cross-functional project team selecting API phase and form for late development.• Excellent oral and written communicator regularly presenting both internally and externally.• Fully compliant with all safety and GMP regulatory requirements, including authoring of manufacturing S2 sections for NDA filings.• Given the opportunity to further development my own chemical ideas while supervising summer project students.• Lead first aider, also qualified in AED, anaphylaxis treatment and oxygen administration.
