Brisbane, Queensland, Australia An exciting new chapter begins, coming full circle to where my foray into business began. After coaching for almost 7 years I decided the best way to fully appreciate what it was like to walk a mile in the shoes of those I coached was to build a construction company of my own. After coaching for almost 7 years I decided the best way to fully appreciate what it was like to walk a mile in the shoes of those I coached was to build a construction company of my own. A decade of doing just that showed me the ups and downs, the wins and loses that go hand in hand with the construction industry. Having achieved all I set out to over the last decade, it's time to give back, and to do that I've joined an outstanding team of people dedicated to combining best business practices with family connectivity. From personal experience, one of the most significant challenges experienced in growing a small business from a job with an ABN to becoming a true business that can live for a time without you. Brisbane, Queensland, Australia Because this is my own construction company I was a jack-of-all-trades for a long time. The role grew from being on the tools and at the coal face to focusing on the back end of project operations and general management. The role grew from being on the tools and at the coal face to focusing on the back end of project operations and general management. Initially, I was focused on small renovations to fund operations that provided cash flows for larger scale property renovations and flips. The property projects became small lot property development projects, and so on. As projects became more complex so the need for larger scale renovation works required the business to accommodate more operational diversity, complexity, and the risks that go with that. Rather than go down the path of becoming an all consuming corporate model, I focused on creating a better work / life balance. Implementing a succession plan that replaced me in the day-to-day business from operations managing smaller construction jobs has allowed me to move focus to property development projects. Building affordable housing for homeless women and children is way to build a future upon the foundations of my past, and remains an issue close to home for me, having spent much of my childhood either homeless, between homes, or impacted by that which causes women and children to become vulnerable. Brisbane, Queensland, Australia This was a role that chose me, rather than one I chose. I worked one-on-one with SMEs in the construction space, formulating bespoke change management strategies, building business systems, processes, and sound business financial management practices aimed at improving the bottom line, cash flow and business value. I enjoyed working side by side, in the trenches – so to speak – with business owners who were great technicians in their field, but who often lacked self-efficacy and confidence to know 'how' to move their business from the rut they'd created by building a job for themselves that now controlled their lives. The meaningful relationships, built over time, relied on singular focus to achieving the business and personal outcomes that clients sought. The turning point for me after many years invested in the role was that as much as I coached clients to grow both themselves and their businesses, I hadn't 'chewed the same dirt' as they had. A glass ceiling of credibility that needed to be rectified by walking a mile in the shoes of the client, so I could fully appreciate the challenges I was asking them to face and be accountable for. Some of my significant achievements include: • Gaining stakeholder confidence by protecting NGT from receiving a Registered Training Organisations (RTO) license review conducted by the Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA), and subsequently mitigating potential risks for overall QLD operations. • Preventing litigation for a breach-of-contract inherited from NGT for $200K revenue loss on failure of service delivery. Developed a performing contract within 12 months and handed over to NGT staff for continuation of role. Show less
