I graduated from University of Georgia with a Bachelors of Science in biological sciences and a minor in plant pathology. While there I conducted research on genetic transformation of various crops and developed a transgenic defence mechanism against Soybean Mosaic Virus for which I received the CAES/CURO Undergraduate Research Initiative Scholarship, the UGA libraries Undergraduate Research Award, and the UGA libraries Undergraduate Research Presentation Award. I was responsible for numerous plant DNA & RNA extractions, tissue culture, PCR, media making, and other molecular biology techniques required for transgenic transformations of plants. Additionally, I am responsible for E. coli and Agrobacterium rhizogenes transformations and biolistics and Agrobacterium mediated transformation of soybeans. Additionally the construction of vectors and their sequence confirmation requires ligations, digestions, primer designing, and numerous other techniques. I worked with my team to optimization an experimental Glycine max transformation technique which pulled heavily from previous experience. While there I was exposured to a variety of techniques and tools involved in development of additive gene products in a range of crops.
