I help Bachelor, Master and PhD students from any discipline to structure their academic work efficiently; to reflect and reconsider established patterns of work and procrastination; to set realistic and achievable goals; and to find inspiration to persist and succeed in the academic world. Based on my own experience of researching and writing a successful doctoral dissertation, many years of working as a mentor, lecturer, tutor and supervisor of BA and MA theses and as a yoga instructor, I help students to develop more resilience, balance and structure in their work and personal life. In my PhD thesis “Elusive Publics – understanding techno-scientific controversy and democratic governance in the GM crops debate”, I investigate the public controversies about the risks of transgenic crops in India and Europe. Combining the perspective of Science, Technology and Society Studies with political science concepts, I show how publics are continuously constructed by the actors in this controversy. This draws attention to the wider epistemological, normative, and political dimensions of technological innovation in agriculture. In times of populist politics, my research makes a contribution to understanding the implications of the construction of publics for democratic politics.
