Prevention Education Specialist
-
Jun 2019 - Dec 2019
As Prevention Education Specialist with Strength United, I manage complex projects and deliver presentations concerning topics related to human trafficking, sexual assault, and domestic violence occurring at all ages. I work in direct cooperation with colleagues to plan and organize resource fairs for execution within the surrounding community. I interact regularly with neighborhood residents and other interested parties, establishing and maintaining mutually beneficial connections with these. I provide survivors with quality care following my participation in various trauma informed workshops. I support tabling events and community outreach aimed at the target population, as well as the production of marketing collateral for distribution to facility guests. Some of my key accomplishments from this role include the following: I secured sizable donations from five area amusement parks for raffle prizes at the Domestic Violence Awareness Resource Fair, resulting in a greater visitor turnout than anticipated. I offered information to people of color in the LGBTQ+ community on free services and resources, such as HIV and STI testing, trauma therapy / counseling, and housing and other basic human needs.

Leadership Counselor
-
Aug 2015 - Dec 2017
As Leadership Counselor for Peer Health Exchange, I provided advice and guidance to new high school students, empowering these with the knowledge and understanding required for making informed health decisions. I offered training on the appropriate methods for autonomous classroom teaching and management to a group of university students. I instructed a cohort regarding topics associated with physical, mental, and sexual health via personally facilitated workshops. I supervised a team of other counseling professionals, certifying the compliance of these to proprietary course resources and teaching principles, pedagogy, and classroom management strategies. Some of my key accomplishments from this role include the following: I discussed health choices with a minimum of 60 students per week, leading to a reduction in teen pregnancy rates at local schools. I taught a mental health course and discussed suicide prevention, encouraging ninth and tenth grade students to apply classroom instruction to conversations with friends about receiving help for self harm.
