The Nebraska Medical Center

  In both towers of the hospital, we sit bedside, with patients specifying in these categories: suicidal ideations, detox and/or mental status change to ensure safety during their stay at the Nebraska Medical Center. This prevents the risk of falls and puts an end to any lines, tubes or dressings being removed accidentally or intentionally by the patient. Added, about two years ago, is a video monitoring system enabling a Patient Attendant to view more than one patient at a time. This cuts down on Patient Attendants assigned to a floor and brings the patients with a higher risk of fall/pull to the surface so that we may be assigned accordingly. Before each shift a call is placed to receive a room, floor or video monitor assignment. Needless to say it is a different experience each day. The patients needing our assistance can be sure we'll keep a close eye on their well-being 24-hours a day. I have worked all three shifts over the years, but currently overnights are what i find suitable for my busy life. The hospital never closes ;)
