As a Youth Recovery Court therapist I provided individual, family, and group counseling to individuals ranging in age from 10-21 years old. I was the primary therapist for 25+ adolescents in juvenile delinquency court who have committed nonviolent offenses and have a mental illness, a history of trauma, or co-occurring disorder. Each client who was referred to the program met with me to complete a mental health assessment and case staffing to determine if they meet the target diagnosis and criteria for the program. Client information is reviewed during a scheduled court staffing and discussed as a multidisciplinary team if the individual would benefit from a theraputic treatment approach. Working closely as a problem solving multidisciplinary team our goal was to make treatment recommendations in order to promote client accountability, independence, education, and self-esteem for future success.
