I was recruited as one of two Presentation Schedulers to be part of the launch team (channel launched in May 2000) and was promoted to Senior Scheduler one year later. • Sep 1998 - Feb 2000

This was a challenging and exciting position for me but it did involve a lot of time spent alone in a cold dark room working lonely night shifts. Spending a year and a half working in a solitary environment taught me that I wanted to work in a team. I was one of two Transmission Engineers working the hours 1400-0100 on a seven-day fortnight shift pattern. My responsibilities were to ensure seamless channel output and to maintain transmission machinery and equipment. This was my first job in television and I was very fortunate to be given this opportunity. Live TV was a fast paced working environment where the opportunities to learn and try new things were in abundance. I started in MCR, which gave me a thorough understanding of how TV channels function. After which I turned my hand to Transmission, VT Operating and Aston Operating. I directed the launch of Manchester Live at the tender age of eighteen in a one-person studio where I was responsible for all studio functions for a 22 minute news bulletin on the hour, every hour from 0700-1900. Some would say I peaked too soon. Show less
