Visiting Intern
-
Jun 2022 - Aug 2022
During this internship, I received training and experience in safe procedures to work around adult non-human primates, particularly chimpanzees. I followed necessary protocols and procedures, and consulted papers and videos to form a thorough understanding of chimpanzee behaviours. I assisted in many aspects of husbandry such as preparing meals and enrichment, cleaning enclosures and performing housekeeping. I also participated in a non-invasive behavioural study of the only rhesus macaque at the sanctuary and learned to record behaviours listed in an ethogram using a 1/0 sampling technique. After the first few weeks, I became more autonomous in the tasks I needed to complete. I also wrote blogposts in English and in French about my experiences as an intern. Show less
