Prof. Soedarto, SH, Semarang, Indonesia 50275 Abstract Microalgae is a thallus plant with a size of 2-500µm that has chlorophyll so it is very efficient in capturing and utilizing solar energy and CO2 for photosynthesis purposes. Microalgae has a great potential for biotechnology to produce valuable products such as feed, food, cosmetics, and the pharmaceutical industry as well as bioenergy raw materials and therefore the importance of harvesting microalgae because it has many benefits. This research aims to investigate a new technique of harvesting system of microalgae using bioflocculation method and determine the optimal dose of chitosan to form Chlorella flocks and determine the optimal mixing rate in Chlorella flocculation. The harvesting system will use bioflocculation techniques i.e Chitosan flocculations, microalgae Chlorella pyrenoidosa was used as a model species. However, the main problem is the microalgae harvesting technology is expensive. The bioflocculation method has shown promise that it is energy efficient and promises lower costs compared to other techniques, as well as being environmentally friendly.
