I was primarily assigned international arbitrations in the upstream oil and gas sector. My work includes handling, preparing, vetting, and reviewing documents and Statement of Defence on behalf of GOI (e.g. Vedanta & CEHL v. UOI) pertaining to Production Sharing Contracts (PSCs), cost recovery of petroleum operations, transfer & assignment of participating Interest, imposition and implications of statutory taxes (particularly, payment of royalty and cess). Moreover, I was also assigned various National Green Tribunal (NGT), National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), and litigation matters contested against the GOI and MOPNG. This was in addition to preparing legal opinions for the MOPNG and GOI on various other legal matters pertaining to the energy sector. In 2021, I also conducted preparatory studies and assisted in finalizing suggestions sent by DGH and MOPNG regarding the recently proposed amendments to the Oilfields Regulation and Development Act, 1948, and the Petroleum and Natural Gas Rules, 1959.
