Designed, planned and executed hypothesis driven behavioral and electrophysiology experiments in animal models and analyzed data to study interaction between accommodation and vergence systems in diseased state of strabismus. Responsible for grant proposal writing, budget and timeline planning and regulatory submissions. Co-ordinated and collaborated with colleagues to implement multiple research projects that resulted in a successful research publications and grants. Developed hardware and software system to perform experiments to quantify and model audio-visual (multi-sensory) integration in strabismic subjects at behavioral and neurophysiological level Implemented a servo-controlled dichoptic photo-refraction system for measuring binocular accommodation in strabismic subjects. Mentored students and oversaw implementation of their research project. Designed and conducted graduate level course on fundamental Neuroscience and Control Signal systems. Performed large data analysis using mathematical modeling and regression analysis depicting the interactions between different areas of the brain neural system. Conducted non-clinical sterile surgical procedures on animal models following institutional regulatory standard operating procedures to gather biological signals. Show less

Conducted electrophysiology and behavioral research to understand the neural substrate and its structure function relationship in clinical developmental disorders of the visual system. Developed the data acquisition system using Labview and integrated it with visual stimulus presentation system, developed using Matlab and Psychtoolbox , and neural data recording system to conduct behavior and electrophysiology experiments. Implemented a motion control system to drive a direct servo controlled high torque rotary table for specific behavior paradigms. Achieved independence in conducting sterile surgical procedures to perform opthalmological procedures for scleral coil implantation to record eye movements as well as stereotaxic chambers implantation for neurophysiological recordings. Performed data analysis, modelling and parameter optimiization to quantitatively provide clear evidence on the role played by the neural signals in setting the state of misalingment. The experiments resulted in two very well cited publications and international conference presentations. Developed educational content and conducted semester course on Fundamental Neuroscience and Signals and Systems for graduate students. Show less

Designed and implemented data acquisition and control system with multiple hardware integration such as head positioning system, MOOG platform, rotary chair system, IR video-based eye recording system utilizing standard protocols such as TCP/IP, VISA and serial communications. Performed visual display graphics characterization, setup and calibration for accurate contrast and luminance stimulus presentation. Perform analog and digital signal processing, data analysis and modeling of large multi-trial eye movement data and interpreted the results to provide functional insights into the Visual Motor systems. My primary research project involved investigating the application of eye movements, particularly Ocular following response (OFR), as a biomarker tool in clinical patients with disorders of abnormal eye tracking movement such as, Parkinsonian disorders and Multiple Sclerosis. Created paradigms and acquired data to study rehabilitation in stroke patients using ISCAN infrared eye tracking system synchronized with robotic arm manipulator using Labview. Assisted in conducting clinical diagnostic evaluation of patients with various neurological disorders. I was involved in a clinical research study evaluating efficacy of two therapeutic treatments for patients with various forms of nystagmus thereby providing prescription options with better results for patients. I was responsible for coordinating and implementing a multi-lab integrated hardware software platform using LabVIEW RT (PXI system) to conduct behavior and neurophysiology experiments trying to understand fundamental neurobiological systems involved in balance and spatial orientation using auditory and visual cues. The LabVIEW RT based system was designed and implemented as a portable and modular data acquisition and motion control system resulting in a simplified and user configurable system to execute customized various research paradigms addressing unique neurological questions. I also developed Matlab GUI software for importing large binary data sets for signal processing and data analysis of neural spikes and behavior data to provide insights into the data and present graphical outputs for interpretation.
