This project focuses on the initiatives proposed by Canadian mining companies (EMC) in West African (WA) countries in response to the challenges and objectives of sustainable development (SD). Since the discovery, in 2012, of the Saharan vein promoting the boom in the gold sector, EMCs have made a remarkable entry in AO, particularly in Côte d'Ivoire, Burkina-Faso, Mali, Niger, Senegal and Guinea. , in a dominant position vis-à-vis other foreign investors. Even if Canada does not have a… Show more This project focuses on the initiatives proposed by Canadian mining companies (EMC) in West African (WA) countries in response to the challenges and objectives of sustainable development (SD). Since the discovery, in 2012, of the Saharan vein promoting the boom in the gold sector, EMCs have made a remarkable entry in AO, particularly in Côte d'Ivoire, Burkina-Faso, Mali, Niger, Senegal and Guinea. , in a dominant position vis-à-vis other foreign investors. Even if Canada does not have a colonial past in WA as in the case of European countries, nor imperialist aims as it is said of China, Russia and the United States of America, this important breakthrough of EMC in AO elicits mixed reactions. For the better, the Canadian government has made this region a development priority, placing emphasis on promoting Canadian values abroad, including respect for human rights in the responsible conduct of CME. For the worse, the conflicting relationship between EMCs and communities in WA has taken a dramatic turn in the form of violent and even terrorist attacks, resulting in the kidnapping and murder of protagonists, including targeted Canadians. How, under these conditions, can EMCs engage with stakeholders in these local communities to promote their strategies and achieve SD objectives? In particular, this project aims to study the profitability analysis methodologies of large mining projects to see how CSR imperatives are integrated into them and define how they could be better and more.
