I worked together with Rocío on a strategic innovation project at Agexport, Guatemala's Export Association. The project consisted fo building a new line of Premium products for the US Market, and selling them via B2C Digital Channels. I was the innovation coach for the project, and Rocío was the project manager. During the years we worked together, Rocío showed unwavering discipline in the project execution--something particularly challenging given the uncertain nature of the project. She led a team, building the business case, the business execution plan, running the tests and pilots, selecting suppliers, working with the exporting clients to relaunch their products as "Premium" products--including the redesign of brand, packaging, FDA approval processes, etc. The project pivoted many times throughout the process, as moving from theory to practice forced the team find better alternatives that would actually work in the real world. Rocío navigated the complexity and and uncertainty superbly well, adapting easily to the new directions that project needed to go, while maintaining the core essence and following through on long, drawn-out approval processes to move the project forward. Rocío not only showed great project management skills, but also team team leadership skills--navigating the complexities of a large organization to protect her team (there were several part-time team members) and including her team's perspective when making decisions. Although the project was put on hold because of COVID-19 before it could be completed, Rocío left a strong legacy that can be used in the future, including two world-class brands, products that are ready for market (including FDA approval), a detailed analysis of the Amazon product space for the products being launched and a blueprint for building a business on Amazon, a detailed analysis around building an import platform in the US to consolidate Guatemalan exports, among other things. Rocío was also asked to coordinate the e-Commerce Committee for Agexport, which I also sat on. During the life of this committee, she led efforts to build a consolidated support system for exporters to move to e-commerce, encompassing all of the existing fragmented efforts throughout the organization. She did an great job navigating the internal politics and consolidating complex information into a unified approach. I recommend Rocío highly for roles that require building new, high-impact initiatives in the context of uncertainty, complexity and difficult stakeholders. Her humility, kindness and discipline make her effective at moving complex projects forward.
