Respond to and evaluate hospital referrals for the potential for organ/tissue donation. Maintain effective communication between IDN staff, hospital and all other agencies/professionals involved. Perform plasma dilution assessment to assure qualified samples. Accurately obtain authorization for donation and medical/behavioral history of potential donor. Ensure compliance with local medical examiner needs during the recovery process. Work with Organ Donation Manager on process improvements for staff performance to identify and achieve case efficiency. Perform thorough review of medical records; assure EMS run report and current hospitalization information is obtained. Collect and label all blood for serological testing and HLA tissue samples. Manage organ donors to optimize organ function and utilization. Allocate organs for transplant following industry standards and established policies and procedures. Communicate and interact with transplant surgeons to provide information to pertinent to organ suitability and allocation. Assist with recovery and presentation of organs during the organ recovery surgery in collaboration with surgeons, IDN recovery staff and hospital staff to maximize organ viability. Coordinate transportation of recovery teams. Prepare recovery equipment. Prepare preservation equipment for the perfusion and/or storage of kidney(s). Monitor kidney(s) on the preservation equipment until transplant. Accurately label and package organs for transport. Respond to and evaluate import organ offers. Assist local transplant teams with recovery of organs at donor hospitals throughout the United States. Perform training with new staff or staff learning additional job functions. Assist in the training of staff and document the information on the training checklist immediately following the case. Complete QA requests. Show less
