Preschool 4 Teacher and Grade Level Leader
-
Jul 2018 - Jun 2021
I teach 4-5-year-old children in a Reggio-inspired PYP classroom. During this time, we transitioned to online learning due to the COVID-19. As the team leader, I helped to coordinate the learning for my grade level. As one of the first schools to begin online learning in February I had a lot of experience with what worked and what didn't work. I shared some of this experience in an article I wrote for NAEYC's magazine Teaching Young Children called Play, Development, and Relationships: A Preschool Teacher in China Shares Her Virtual Teaching Experience. Pk-ES ELL Teacher & Coordinator
-
Sep 2016 - Jun 2018
I coordinated the program and taught children in grades k-3 in a pull-out and push-in model. As a part of my role, I kept track of WIDA assessments, analyzed data, and made plans for instruction based on those results. I helped to change the elementary report card for ELL children and found ways to include language acquisition on the preschool reports. Additionally, I created the Language Ambassador Program which matched new ELL children with buddies who spoke the same language in order to help them settle into school more easily. Show less

Kindergarten & ESOL Teacher
-
Aug 2008 - Jun 2011
For two years I taught ESOL to students in grades 3-5. In this role, I provided support both through push-in support and pull-out support. Making connections to their mother tongue was very important and I assigned work to students where they were learning important content vocabulary in their mother tongue before they learned it in English. I also spent a year as a PYP kindergarten classroom teacher. In my play-based classroom, students engaged in learning centers and were able to choose between teacher created learning opportunities and independent learning based on their interests. Show less
