  The Massachusetts Society of CPAs is a non-profit organization consisting of approximately 11,000 members, state-wide. Members range from practicing public accountants in large national firms, to single practitioners, to teachers of accounting, to accountants employed in government, industry or the non-profit world. As President and CEO, I have the responsibility of overall management and oversight of the Society, Educational Foundation and Massachusetts CPA PAC. This includes: planning, policy recommendation, coordinating and implementing the decisions of the Board of Directors and assistance to Board officers, committee chairs and the membership as they work to attain the objectives of the Society to protect and promote the value of being a CPA in Massachusetts.   In my role as Commissioner of the Department of Revenue, I was responsible for overseeing about 2,000 DOR employees in offices across the state in Tax Administration, Child Support Enforcement and the Division of Local Services. My key focus as Commissioner was to understand and improve DOR’s relationship with the communities it serves. During my tenure the Agency conducted meetings and focus groups with members of the taxpayer community as well as the practitioner community to discuss and improve a wide range of matters including the dispute resolution process, Audit and Collection practices, and Electronic filing requirements. I also established an advisory group to ensure regular opportunities for feedback and discussion. Prior to becoming Commissioner, I had worked at DOR from 1991 to 2000, serving as Deputy Commissioner of Taxpayer Services and later as Deputy Commissioner of Child Support Enforcement. Show less
